The Information Presentation phase is very important. This is
where a person makes use of the information. There are a number of interfaces
and techniques to get at information. Some tools can assemble the data into very
advanced viewing techniques. Others provide minimal changes but run fast. Each
has its own benefits and expenses.
You can send a report to anyone, but it takes some skill and intelligence
to pull value out of it. Provide adequate training and support on the tools and
the application and the data to insure the implementation is as complete as possible.
Don’t pay too much attention to the technology of advanced graphics and
forget the business reasons. Define your presentations to get the job done and
keep them simple and easy to use.
Understand that a report on a monitor is not an entire application. The complete
cycle of providing the data from acquisition though presentation makes up the
entire application. The entire system must be managed well in
order for the presentation to be useful.
Pick the presentation style that is right for each type of work event. (I.e.
do not provide simple query and reporting for persons that need to analyze trends.)
Make sure that you have built adequate controls into your application to ensure
that every person in any one group gets the same answers as their peers do. Make
it easy to get the same answer. Remove the consumers from excess variations that
can cause different results.
